AUDITIONS
Most auditions are cold reads from the play that the director has selected ahead of time. It is always helpful for anyone who auditions for a show to know the history of the show or about it in some way. No prepared monologues are needed. Head shots are recommended but not necessary and any time conflicts should be known at the time of audition!

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS / FRANKENSTEIN 1930 (casting 7 men / 6 women)
VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN 30s – Ambitious, ego-driven, brilliant but ultimately flawed! Victor is
blinded by his need to prove his scientific theory; he is also willing to sacrifice his sanity (and
family building with fiancée Elizabeth) to achieve his goal of creating life. The archetypal ‘mad
scientist’, Frankenstein eventually realizes that the Creature must be destroyed.
THE CREATURE 20-40s – Large build, at least 6’, child-like at first but then evolves into a
vengeful monster determined to destroy Victor, and anyone else who gets in the Creature’s way.
Although the role is non-speaking, the Creature has different moods and expressive moments to
portray in this story.
GORGO 30s-40s – The Igor character is super loyal to Victor, excited about the scientific
experiment and arrival of his new ‘friend’ (the Creature) – only to be disappointed by the
outcome. Comic relief.
ELIZABETH 20s-30s – The heroine of this story. She is brave, strong-willed, and a loyal friend
and Victor’s fiancée. She was adopted as a child by the Frankenstein family, only to later fall in
love with Victor. She is emotionally mature and is also Henry’s very close friend.
AUNT FREDERICA 40s-60s – The matriarch of the family. Warm and motherly, eccentric.
Close to Victor, Elizabeth, and Henry. Aunt Frederica has comical undertones in certain
moments of the play.
BERTA 20s-30s – Comical awkwardness embodied by the young, nervous maid. She is hired
help at the Manor. She later confides with her dad, Horst, about the strange events she hears
about at Victor’s lab (aka ‘the mill’).
HENRY LOVITZ 30s – A contemporary of Victor’s. Dashing gentleman. A dear friend and
secret admirer of Elizabeth’s. Loyal and ready to help, he has a kind of integrity; he’s an
emotional anchor for Elizabeth when she is fraught with worry over Victor’s experiments.
DR. HELLSTROM 50s-60s – The professor and mentor of Henry and Victor. More thoughtful
about the strange events and their ramifications. A man of integrity and science. After voicing
his concerns, Hellstrom ultimately attempts to help Victor restrain the Creature.
GRAVE DIGGER 1 / HORST 40s-50s – As the first grave-digger, an important opening
sequence with Victor and Gorgo. Later appears as Horst, an older man whose daughter Berta
is the maid at the Frankenstein Manor.
GRAVE DIGGER 2 / SECOND MAN 20s-40s – The other grave-digger at the show’s opening,
he later appears at Horst’s friend, the Second Man.
MOTHER / JALNA 40s-50s – In the opening scene, the Mother is grieving aloud at the death of
her beloved son, whom we later find out wasn’t such a nice guy. Her son is the one whose brain
Victor steals and implants into his Creature. Later appears as Jalna, a villager who witnesses
suspicious activity in the woods just outside their habitat.
DAUGHTER / KORDA 20s-30s – The supportive daughter of the grieving mother in the play’s
opening, and later as Korda, the mother of the young girl (Maria) killed by the Creature.
MARIA 10-12-year-old – innocent girl who plays the game Jacks with the Creature. He
accidentally kills her after she tells him to give her back the ball.
